MavTV Covering Trials
As most of you know, MavTV is
once again covering the National Trials Series on its network. In
addition, Ed Coughlin with MavTV and Chet Burks Productions has
updated us with some fantastic news for those of you currently with
Dish Network and Time Warner Cable providers.
1. The cable giant,
Time Warner has added MavTV in almost every major
market except L.A. Really need all Time Warner customers, who now have MavTV,
to call and thank them for adding MavTV.
2. MavTV is now
available on Dish. The Trials community can best help
their cause by calling and signing up for their service and
let the customer service representative know it’s because
they want MavTV HD. It would also help for them to lob
in phone calls and emails to DirecTV in order to move that
deal along.
Original Air Dates for '09 Series. All
shows will run about five times. Check

David Mizell to join TTC
David Mizell will be relocating from
Texas to Tennessee, joining TTC to help Charlie with trials riding
instruction, event preparation, and the many other jobs to keep the
TTC in shape for America's trials riding destination. David will
also be contesting the nationals in the 125cc Expert class this
season.
Meanwhile, the Trials Training Center, and proud mom
Catherine, are pleased to announce that local pro Alex Bedley is
graduating high school (4th in his class) this May 15 and will be
attending college at the
Citadel in Charleston, SC starting June 1.
Alex has hopes to one day be an officer and a pilot, and we're all
cheering him on!
Nationals and Family Camp at TTC
It's shaping up to
be another very busy summer at the Trials Training Center with the
TI/STRA joint AMA/NATC national trials championships the weekend of
June 27/28 followed by the week-long family camp, the 10th Annual
Youth Nationals July 3-5, the Bicycle Nationals on July 4, and the
American Trials Training Camp the week of July 6-11. The AMA/NATC
nationals will include a Pro class "shootout" format this year, with
the pros riding two loops with the support classes and then
competing in a group of spectator-friendly "shootout" sections that
look to separate the top positions. This will be a week that no
American trials rider should miss!
Bou Wins British GP
Toni Bou (Montesa) won both days of
the British Grand Prix on May 16-17, beating Gas Gas rider Adam Raga
on each occasion.
On Saturday, Bou survived
an early first lap scare to eventually run out a clear and
comfortable winner. Raga once again proved to be Bou's nearest
challenger, but his attempt to steal the victory from his compatriot
faded during the second lap. The Spanish pair were in a class of
their own, with third place being taken by veteran campaigner Dougie
Lampkin (Beta), after Montesa's Takahisa Fujinami retired due to
injury.
The heavy rain that had been forecast never actually
arrived, with only light showers interrupting the day. The opening
series of hazards that had been packed tightly into the disused
sandstone quarry offered little resistance to the front runners,
with section six taking the first real marks. Albert Cabestany (Sherco)
suffered badly here with a hefty five that was to mark the start of
a bad day for the rider from Tarragona who finally finished down in
fifth spot.
Bou looked in total command until a mistake cost him
dearly in the eighth hazard. This five was to wreck his clean sheet
and was to give Raga the lead, with Adam having only parted with a
single dab to the same point. However Bou was soon to make amends
for his error as he produced the ride of the trial in section ten.
His amazing clean up and over the steep jumble of rocks was the only
one of the day, and in fact was the only time that any rider reached
the end cards of this tough hazard.
Raga failed to maintain his
challenge on the second lap allowing Bou to take the win by nine
marks after two unexpectedly dry laps of competition.
On Sunday,
Bou claimed the clear victory despite being beset with problems with
his bike early in the day resulting in a
spectacular crash in the
fourth section when the bike lost power at a critical moment. This
failure early in the lap gave Raga the advantage, but with him
dropping a five on the 10th section and Bou's bike problems having
been resolved, the pair were tied on eight marks going into the
second half of the competition.
Bou took the advantage after Raga
dropped a dab in the third section, but a five from Bou in the sixth
hazard, which he cleaned on the first lap, handed the lead back to
Raga. However, another five from Raga, again on the tenth section
assured Bou of his fourth victory in the championship to date.
Bou now leads the overall series standings on ninety seven points
with Raga nine points behind on eighty eight.

2009 Ute Cup
This year's Ute Cup will take place in a
brand new location, at La Garita (near Del Norte), on August 15-16.
According to Larry Lund, this is the best venue yet for the Ute Cup
and the average elevation is 10,000 feet with some sections of the
trail going as high as 12,800 feet! Larry also wanted us to know
that "This year's event is reverting back to the very successful
'80s' format which featured Intermediate level sections. The trail
will be moderate-advanced level and will be a bit of a workout while
the sections will be considerable easier than in the past. Some of
the sections will actually be part of the trail."
The two-day
event will feature two 20-mile loops per day (different loops each
day) and 20 sections per day. Trials Marshals will be Keith & Kevin
Busch, Bill Brokaw, Larry Lund. The cost is $50 for pre-entry and
$50 for entries after August 1st. You can go to the
Rocky
Mountain Trials Association website to download entry forms and
mail them with payment to: Jean Clement, 16535 Brooks Way, Elbert,
CO 80106. For more info see the ad on page 17, of our April edition.
